#1 Today I started reading the book Justin Morgan Had A Horse. The characters started off
living in Randolph, Vermont but now the setting is in Springfield, Massachusetts.
It reminds me of the book, Black Beauty because they describe it in the same way they do in
Black Beauty.
#2 I started reading Justin Morgan Had a Horse Today. Joel (the little boy) and Mr.Morgan ( Joel's teacher) are in Springfield, Massachusetts. Mr.Morgan is trying to buy a horse from Mr .Bean. This book reminds me of the book King of the wind, because nobody wants the baby horse in king of the wind, because he is all scrawny and puney and is a grunt, and so is the horse in this book, bub.
Extra Comments: In the begining of the book when the farmer yells, "Great Jumping Jehoshaphat!",
the word 'Jehoshaphat', do you know what that means?
Abbi: okay.
#1 I just finished reading day #3 of the book Justin Morgan Had a Horse. My favorite character in the book
is Bub the pony. He is so sweet and kind. I would say that he is sort of helpless because he is very young.
I don't think I strongly have a least favorite character. But if I had to pick one it would be Mister Goss.
On page 47 (chapter 5) in my book, it says at the end, Grudgingly Mister goss said, "Howdy." But he did
not smile or nod. He ignored the colts completly. I thought that was pretty mean; Considering that I love horses!
#2 I read day 3 today. My favorite character is Bub the pony. He is cute and kind and funny.
He is a small little pony who loves people, he is is worth a small amount of money and is worthless. And I guess that's why I like him. I don't strongly dislike anybody in this book. But if I had to pick a least favorite character it would be Mister Goss.
He has no respect for any type of animal (ecspecily horses) and wants Mister Justin Morgan to move out, because
he is a man and should have his own home, and a family by now. Mister Goss is trying to take as much of Joel's mind off of horses as he can and trying to get him a job, even though he is only 10 or 11 years old.
Extra Comments: Why did mister morgan sell Ebineser? Mrs.Rowe: Abbi, I loved the way you sited what Mr. Goss said directly from your book! I agree, he sounds pretty crabby, how can you not smile or be happy to see a baby horse??
Abbi: Saige, I had that question too in my book. My guess is because Mister Morgan did not have enough room in
the barn. Abbi: Mrs Rowe. I agree with you on that. I know I would smile and be happy to see a baby horse!
Reading Response Day 5
#1 Today, I just ended on page 95 of my day #5 reading. I'll asure you it was really good! Anyway, so far the book
is about a character named Mister Morgan and he owns 2 horses. One of their names is Ebineser. The other is Bub.
Bub was sort of thin when I firsted started the book. But now he is a full grown horse and he is very strong. Ebineser is just
like Bub, only he was more muscular when he was a colt. On page 68 in my book, where it says,"How can someone buy
such a little horse?" that reminds me of the non-fiction picture book I read just recently. It was called A Friend For Einstein, the Smallest Horse in the World it was about the smallest horse in the world that was no bigger than a cereal box when he was first
born.
#2 Mr. Morgan bought a horse named Ebineezer and got a free horse named Bub. Mr. Morgan sold Ebineezer and asked Joel if he would train bub. Joel said yes. When bub way fully trained a person asked Mr. Morgan if he could rent bub. Mr. morgan said sure. The person took little bub in a pulling contest and bub was stronger than two ox!
Then he took little bub in a race. And bub won it by 1/4 a mile. news spread like wild fire that the little horse was stronger than two ox and faster than a throughbred. ( a throughbred is a race horse.) They had never seen a breed like this before so they started to call it the Morgan horse after Mr. Morgan.
Extra Comments: Saige, a throughbred isn't always a race horse. They can be used for many different things.
Not always racing. The person that you mentioned in your summary was Ezra Fisk.
I
Reading Response Day 7
#1 I just finished my day #7 reading of the book, Justin Morgan Had A Horse. A text to book connection is like I said in some of the other
responses, this book reminds me of the book, black beauty. The reason of this is because most of the characters are the same, and both of the owners are very strict the horses. A text to to self connection is when my mom was going to buy me a horse and the owners of the horse were very strict
and mean. So my mom didn't want me to have a horse that was mean and agressive! So we went to this place called Equitate and luckly
we got a horse.
#2
Extra Comments: Saige, On page 112 in my book, do you know why the author said Master Morgan instead
of Mister Morgan?
saige: no
Reading Response Day 9
#1 The most action pact part of the story is when bub wins the race competition because he was trained
by a loving owner who cared about him and respected him. that is why he won the race.
#2 the best part in this book is when joel finds bub and bub is a weak horse, but with joels help he turns into a
strong heathey horse once again. one other is when joel and bub go in a parade in front of the preisedint.
the preisendint gets to pick the best and his favorite horse to ride on and he choses ...
BUB!
Extra Comments:
I new that about throughbreds just to let you no. Abbi: ok.
